Eastenders bosses decided to write him out of scenes and delayed some shooting because the 48-year-old was bruised up after the incident on 29 July.
A source told Daily Mirror, "He was pretty banged up. He walked away with a black eye. The guy he argued with is a big bloke. He obviously took exception to Steve.'
An EastEnders spokesman refused to comment, saying it was a personal matter.
